Lost Pets

If you have lost a pet don't give up! Just keep moving forward. Recruit relatives, friends and neighbors if possible to help.

  • Post signs - SIGNS will really help get out the word fast. Laminate the signs at a copy center if possible. If not, USE PERMANENT MARKER, or copy on a machine. Someone may have your pet and if they see your sign or pet in the AJC as lost, they will contact you.

  • Look at the AJC Classifieds on line for Found Pets. The more people who know your pet is lost, the better chance you have of getting your pet back.

  • Put your lost pets lost write-up with photo in www.ajcclassifieds.com under Pets: Lost Pets.

  • Visit your local shelters/humane societies in person at least every 3-5 days. Ask to check isolation areas at the shelters.

  • Immediately place large, brightly colored flyers at the major road intersections within at least a 3 mile radius of your home. Putting up signs around your neighborhood is not enough -- remember that dogs can travel 5 miles per day!

  • Run lost ads in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and any local newspapers. The phone number for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is 404-577-5772

  • Check found ads in the papers daily.

  • Call neighbors and ask if anyone in their family has seen your pet.

  • Offer a reward.

  • Call all vets in your area including the emergency clinics. Fax them a picture and description of your pet if possible.

  • If your pet is wearing a rabies tag, make sure the vet who vaccinated your pet has your correct phone number.

  • Register the lost pet on the Pets 911 Lost and Found database.
