Mutt Madd-ness will campaign tirelessly for the welfare of animals. There are thousands of organizations, shelters and rescues, from the Humane Society of The United States to the ASPCA, working everyday to educate and fight for the humane treatment of our animals. This page is dedicated to the causes and organizations that we feel strongly about and support in their efforts.

Poison Control Hotlines
It's always a good idea to post close at hand your veterinarian's number, the number of an emergency clinic, and the number for the Poison Control Center. Before you call, note the time your pet was exposed to the toxin, the type of product ingested, the manufacturer's name and any ingredients you can find listed on packaging.

Black Dog Syndrome is a phenomenon that is well known to shelter workers and rescue organizations across the nation. Black dogs are much more difficult to find homes for. They are the last dogs to find homes and often among the first to be euthanized.

THE REWARDS OF FOSTERING

I am the bridge between what was and what can be. I am the pathway to a new life!

I am made of mush. Because my heart melted when I saw you; matted and sore, limping, lonely, unwanted and afraid to love.

For a moment in time, you are mine. I will feed you with my own hand.
I will love you with my whole heart. I will make you whole.

I am made of steel. Because when the time comes, when you are well, and sleek, when your eyes shine, and your tail wags with joy, then comes the hard part...I will let you go - not without tears, but without regret. For you are safe forever. A new dog needs me now!

WON'T YOU PLEASE FOSTER!

Since we are so DESPERATE for fosters to temporarily house our fabulous mutts we thought that a little more information on what it means to foster may eliminate any concerns you have. First, let me mention what a great opportunity to teach children the importance of caring for the animals in their community. Because we are a 501(C)(3), fostering can be credited for service hours.

The only financial obligation we would ask of you is to provide the dog's food. We can supply you with kennels, pens, and anything else necessary. Foster families may be asked to visit our vet, but we pick up the bill.

We have several options available - won't you please take a peek!

1. Basic Foster: Foster a dog in your home until it is adopted. The dog needs to come to Petsmart on Saturday for our adoption event - you don't even have to hang around...just drop and pick-up.

2. Long Term: Foster a dog while they are recovering from surgery, heartworm treatment or another condition that does not allow them to come to adoptions. Average foster time is 4 weeks or more.

3. Short Term: Homes are needed for dogs who need to be rescued immediately. Or, when a foster home needs to find a temporary solution while they are out of town or unavailable. Average foster time is about 2 weeks or less.

To have our dogs fostered by caring families makes them that much more adoptable. They are socialized by living with other pets and children, they learn to walk on leashes and perhaps even learn to sit and shake. Won't you reconsider?
